Privacy

← Back to the game

Counterword has no accounts, no cookies and no ads, and it doesn't follow you around the web. This page says what it keeps, and why.

On your device

Your browser keeps your settings (age group, mode, difficulty, sound), your best scores and the last initials you used, so they are there next time. They stay on your device and are never sent anywhere, except the initials you choose to save with a score. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.

The hall of fame

When a score makes a top 10 and you save it, we store three letters you pick (not a name), the score, wave, hits, misses, accuracy, best streak, play time, the board and whether you played with a keyboard or a touch screen. It is shown publicly on the hall of fame. We keep the best 100 scores per board. You don't need to use your real initials.

Counting how the game is used

We count, per day, how many games are started and finished, how far they get and how many scores are saved, split by keyboard or touch, age group, mode and difficulty. These are totals only: nothing in them identifies a player or a device.

We also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page visits, browsers, device types and countries without cookies and without storing anything on your device. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Hosting and security

Counterword runs on Cloudflare. To stop spam, your IP address is used for a moment to limit how many scores can be saved per minute; we don't store it. Cloudflare keeps short-lived request logs (a few days) for security and fixing errors.

Children

Counterword is made for players from 8 years old. It asks for no personal information: no names, emails or accounts.
